What is courage?

In Religious Education we are exploring the Holy Spirit.  In particular we are looking at the gift of courage.  As a class we discussed what courage means. Then we each had to use Google Drawings to create a picture that explains what courage means to us. Have a look at the video of all our pictures.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Chapters 9- 21

Here are some more chapter summaries from the marvellous book 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.'

Chapter 9
Charlie came home from school, Grandpa Joe was the only grandparent awake.  Grandpa Joe had a purse with some money in it.  He told Charlie to run to the nearest corner shop to buy a Wonka Bar. The opened it together but there was no golden ticket.

Chapter 10
Mr Bucket lost his job and the family began to starve.  One day when it started to get cold, and the snow started to fall, Charlie tried to conserve his limited energy.  On the way back from school he was the hungriest he had ever felt. Suddenly, he saw a 50 pence piece half buried in the snow.  He decided to buy just one luscious bar of chocolate.

Chapter 11
Charlie is in the shop and he decides to buy a chocolate bar with the money he has found.  He is so hungry and is delighted to devour the first delicious bar.  He then decides to buy a second bar and as he opens it he discovers the golden ticket…..the one he has been hoping for.  Some people in the shop try to buy it from him but the shopkeeper advises Charlie to run home immediately and not to stop or talk to anyone.

Chapter 12
Charlie rushed home screaming to his mother saying “I’ve got the fifth golden ticket, I’ve got the fifth golden ticket.”  His mother and the four old grandparents stared in shock until Grandpa Joe jumped out of bed in excitement. Mr Bucket came home and read the instructions of the golden ticket aloud to the family. Mr and Mrs Bucket decided that Grandpa Joe would go with Charlie to the factory tomorrow.

Chapter 13
All the golden ticket finders were standing outside the gates waiting for them to open up. All the children except for Charlie were jostling to get to the gates. Finally a church bell rang and the gates opened up, to all the children who found the 5 golden tickets.

Chapter 14
The children and their parents got to see Mr Willy Wonka.  Mr Willy Wonka was dressed in a purple coat, a top hat and had a small goatee on his face.  He was very excited and spoke very quickly. He ushered the winners into his factory.

Chapter 15
Mr Willy Wonka opened the door to the chocolate room.  The winners were amazed at the sight.  There was a tremendous chocolate waterfall, a grass made from swudge and lots of edible plants. Across the river they saw tiny little men, called Oompa-Loompas.

Chapter 16
The Oompa- Loompas are from a land far away from where Mr Wonka’s factory is. The Oompas-Loompas lived in a land called Loompa Land and the only thing they liked to eat was cacao beans. Mr Willy Wonka made a deal with them, he said if they come to work for him he would give them all the cacao beans they want. The Oompa-Loompas agreed.

Chapter 17
Augustus Gloop was eating the chocolate from the river and then suddenly he fell into the chocolate river and got sucked up the pipe.  Mr and Mrs Gloop were very worried about their son, so the Oompa-Loompas took them to the fudge room to find him. The other Oompa-Loompas sang a song about Augustus.

Chapter 18
Mr Wonka ushered the winners and their families into a tremendous pink boat. The boat took them through a tunnel that had different doors leading off to amazing rooms eg Creams etc.

Chapter 19
All of the lucky winners and their families entered the Inventing Room.  Mr Willy Wonka was thrilled to show them his special invention- the Everlasting Gobstopper. You could keep sucking the gobstopper and it would never get smaller. There was even Hair Toffee that allowed you to grow hair, beards and moustaches.

Chapter 20
Mr Wonka showed them an amazing machine.  It was a gum machine that made a special strip of gum. The gum was like a three course meal; tomato soup, roast beef and potatoes, and blueberry pie.

Chapter 21
Violet decided that she wanted to try the piece of gum.  She could feel the tomato soup running down her throat into her stomach.  She could also taste the roast beef and blueberry pie.  Unfortunately, the blueberry pie caused her to turn blue and swell up into a blueberry. The Oompa-Loompas led her parents away to the juicing room.
