Year 4 Excursion

By Francesca, Mikaela, Edmond and Jonathan

On 4th of August Year 4 went on an excursion to The Hyde Park Barracks, because we are learning about convicts. We were separated into 2 groups and we had a look at all the cool things at the museum and and we listened to stories. When the convicts were naughty they would get hit with the Cat-O-Nine tails, which is just a whip but it has 9 ropes from it and at the end there are knots that cut through the convicts skin.

We went to a room where our guide made a little rat nest under pieces of floor boards, when they opened it they pulled out a fake rat. We got to touch some of replica the items that were from long ago. After that we got to dress up as convicts and did a play. We were even able to sleep in hammocks. Then we go to go outside and make our own bricks out of sand the way we made it is how the convicts used to as well.  Afterwards we made a brick wall out of foam bricks like the pattern on the buildings, it was 2 bricks horizontally and 1 brick vertically. We had to work together to make our wall and keep it from falling over.

When we finished at the Barracks we had lunch and then went to a park and played, we had to do a scavenger hunt this is how it went, we all got a piece of paper that had the letters A-Z spaced out and we had to write something that we could see beginning with that letter. It was so fun! When we finished at the park we went to St Mary's Cathedral and there happened to be mass on,  we lit some candles and prayed. It was such an amazing day!
